About SiarScéal

– celebrating the culture and heritage of Roscommon –

SiarScéal is an arts and literary festival hosted annually and inspired by the culture and heritage of the Roscommon environs, together with the regional counties of Leitrim and Sligo, through the media of poetry, prose, short stories, music, visual arts.

SiarScéal also hosts the annual Hanna Greally Literary Awards, which include the Ger Hanily Memorial Cup, a literary competition which has run every year since the festival began in 2007. Entries are invited from all over the world. Full details about the competition, including themes, prizes, closing dates for entries, previous winners are posted to our website (see Competitions page).

Publications sponsored by SiarScéal are on sale and available to buy online from this website. These include books, anthologies, CDs and reflect the array of talent that the festival has attracted over the years.

SiarScéal is a voluntary group and registered charity (Charity Number: RCN 20201056) supported by public subscriptions as well as funding, in the form of endowments and grants from government bodies, state agencies, arts and literary organisations, together with sponsorship from local businesses. The festival and events that we organise are open to the general public; we welcome visitors from near and far. Donations that we receive, for any amount, however small, support this work and help us to plan future festivals and events.

SiarScéal Festival 2022 will take place on Saturday, 12 November 2022, starting 10am. See our Festival page for the full programme of events, which will include presentation of the Hanna Greally Literary Awards that run in tandem with the festival.
